On Nov. 3, 2016, Life Care Center of Florissant, Missouri, hosted its first blood drive.
Tanya Smith, admissions and marketing director, coordinated the drive through the American Red Cross, and 20 associates and community members came by the bloodmobile in the parking lot to give blood. The Red Cross collected 14 units. Each unit has the potential to save the life of three people.
Even Larry Howdeshell, vice president of Life Care Centers of America’s Missouri Region, rolled up his sleeves to donate blood.
"For years I have wanted to donate blood, but for one reason or another I never did," said Howdeshell. "The positive example the staff of Life Care Center of Florissant provided was just what I needed to inspire me to donate blood for the first time."
“We were very proud of the turnout,” said Valerie Warters, executive director.
Life Care Center of Florissant plans to make the community blood drive an annual event.
